About PLORA

PLORA was created by Elizabeth Kean, a special education teacher with over 25 years of experience, including a decade teaching English in South Korea.

Watching Korean kindergartners learn to read Hangul in days, sometimes hours, changed everything. Hangul works because it is a nearly perfect one-to-one system: one sound, one symbol, every time. When Elizabeth returned to the U.S. and saw older students still struggling with English decoding after years of intervention, the question became impossible to ignore: why can't English reading instruction work like that?

PLORA is her answer. It is a 44-glyph phonemic bridge system designed for students whose primary barrier to reading is decoding -- not comprehension. Students who are bright, capable, and exhausted from years of trying the same things that haven't worked.
